LYS PÅ MØRKE

/ LIGHT ON DARKNESS

A powerful and beautiful book with photographs by artist Stine Loe Jenssen. With carefulness and courage, Jenssen sheds light on complexities that people confront when meeting a traumatic experience that sends their life out of control. Stine Loe Jenssen spent 7 years capturing the stories of 21 people, including herself. 10 women, 10 men aged 18–73 years old. These powerful portraits tap into experiences like the trauma of losing a child, suicide, drug addiction, cancer and even the experience of a tsunami.

This book is an important contribution to raising awareness and knowledge of Mental Health Issues.

Insightful texts by: Astri Hognestad (Psychotherapist/Writer), Stine Loe Jenssen (Fine Art Photographer), Peder Kjøs (Psychologist/Writer), Bjørk Matheasdatter (Couples Therapist/Writer) and Lillian Reif (Editor KUNST magazine).

'This book will surely resonate with people around the world who have suffered life-traumas. It will also help their extended families understand that their loved ones can move from darkness into light without shame.'

—Joyce Tenneson

Storytelling, tactility and craftsmanship

The book is hardback, fully cloth-covered in an exclusive yet robust fabric. The book is produced with three different covers, using 'tip-in images', carefully printed, and mounted by hand. The title is handwritten and embossed on the cover. Every name of the people portrayed is also written by hand, to emphasize the personal and powerful character of the content.  A high quality uncoated paper is used throughout the book.

Custom made design, traditional print and bespoke binding

The book is printed in high quality offset techniques and bound by one of the last remaining bookbinders in Norway. In the gallery below you can see some images from the production. We had an amazing time producing this book in collaboration with Erik Tanche Nilssen and Bokbinderiet Johnsen in Skien:
